Ozil a good short-term solution for Manchester United – Scholes

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil would be a good short-term midfield solution for goal-shy Manchester United, according to Paul Scholes.

United ended an 11-match winless run on their travels with a 1-0 Europa League victory at Partizan Belgrade on Thursday.

Anthony Martial s match-winning penalty was their only attempt on target in Belgrade, having also failed to register a single effort from open play in their goalless draw with AZ earlier this month

Ozil was again left out of Arsenal s matchday squad for the 3-2 win over Vitoria SC on Thursday, meanwhile, and has been used just twice in all competitions this season.

Paris Saint-Germain´s positive response buoys Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel was thrilled with Paris Saint-Germain s reaction to their defeat to Liverpool after the Ligue 1 champions saw off Rennes 3-1.

Adrien Rabiot s early own goal provided an early set back, but Angel Di Maria s sweet strike restored parity on the stroke of half-time, with Thomas Meunier and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting completing the turnaround after the interval.

The victory keeps PSG perfect in Ligue 1 under Tuchel, with six wins from six, and the former Borussia Dortmund boss was delighted with how his side responded to their 3-2 defeat at Anfield in the Champions League.

This is a good reaction from us after the match at Anfield and after the first goal of Rennes, Tuchel told beIN Sports.

Prediction: Parma vs Cagliari

Best Odds: 20/21

Bookmaker:

Looking to finish off the job and punch their Serie B play-off final ticket, Cagliari will travel to the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Saturday night when they meet Parma for their second-leg showdown.

Parma

Starting with the hosts, suffering that infamous second-half collapse earlier in the week, Parma know that they missed out on what was a golden opportunity. Eventually slumping to a 3-2 loss after shipping a trio of goals in the final 22 minutes, Fabio Pecchia’s men now face a phycological test on Saturday night. Watching their three-match winning run come to an abrupt end, the Crusaders will undoubtedly be glad to make a return to home soil here. Eventually breezing their way to another play-off spot this season, the former Verona b…

Rabiot focused on turning Juve´s fortunes around rather than his future

Adrien Rabiot is unsure about his future as he tries to drag Juventus back into form following a poor start to the season.

Rabiot s contract expires at the end of the season and there appears to be no sign of him signing a new one.

The France midfielder was linked with Manchester United during the last transfer window, but a deal reportedly fell through before the Red Devils signed Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Juve are eighth in Serie A after a 2-0 defeat to champions Milan at San Siro on Saturday and face a battle to qualify for the Champions League round of 16, with the pressure on head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

The Bianconeri got up and running in Group H by beating Maccabi Haifa last week to sit four points behind Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica, Rabi…

Ferguson rules out Scotland return

(GSM) Birmingham City s Scottish midfielder Barry Ferguson has ruled out a return to his national team for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Spain.

Ferguson has not played for his national team since the infamous Boozegate episode a year ago admits that he is hurt to be out of the Scotland squad.

However, the 32-year-old told Scotland manager Craig Levein that he does not want to be considered for selection.

An SFA spokesman said: During a live radio broadcast last week, Barry Ferguson intimated that he may consider a return to international football. In subsequent conversations with the national team coach, Craig Levein, and the team scout, Michael Oliver, Barry has confirmed this not to be the case.

He will therefore not be con…

Serbian coach Antic sacked

Serbia s national football coach Radomir Antic was sacked on Wednesday due to the team s poor results at the World Cup and their mediocre start to Euro 2012 qualifying, officials said.

Our board feel that the team has not been managed properly after qualifying for the World Cup and that Antic is an excellent coach but not for the long term, Serbian Football Federation (FSS) chief, Tomislav Karadzic, said.

In the Euro 2012 qualifiers so far Serbia have beat Faroe Islands 3-0 but followed that win with a draw against Slovenia.

We are aware that it is bad to change a coach during qualifiers, (but) we have to take that chance, Karadzic said.

Antic will be replaced by Vladimir Petrovic, the former Red Star Belgrade striker who also played for English Premie…

Borussia Dortmund 3 Tottenham 0: Aubameyang and Reus put hosts in complete control

Borussia Dortmund took complete control of their Europa League last-16 tie against Tottenham with a 3-0 first-leg victory at Signal Iduna Park on Thursday.

Both sides sit second and five points off the top in their respective leagues, but Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino controversially opted to make seven changes to his team and paid the price in Germany.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed in his 33rd goal in 38 appearances this season in the first half, before a clinical double from Marco Reus after the break put Thomas Tuchel s men in a dominant position.

Gonzalo Castro hit the post prior to Reus strikes in a match that could have been even worse for Spurs, who lacked any serious attacking threat without Harry Kane in the starting line-up and now know their conti…

Gotze overrated since World Cup final – Magath

Mario Gotze has been living a charmed life since scoring Germany s winner in the 2014 World Cup final, according to Felix Magath.

Gotze came off the bench to score the extra-time winner against Argentina in Brazil, securing a first global crown since West Germany lifted the trophy in 1990.

However, Magath feels Gotze s value to the team has been skewed by his Rio heroics and that the playmaker has struggled since his move to Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in 2013.

Generally, you should not exaggerate a player based on one action, he told tz. Mario Gotze came on in the World Cup final and scored. No More.

Since his move to Bayern Munich he has not played the role he did in Dortmund. It is debatable whether he really is so indispensable for the national …

Gerrard urges Liverpool to sign Van Dijk

Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool to make a move for Virgil van Dijk as he feels the Southampton defender could make a huge difference to the team.

Van Dijk has firmly established himself as an integral figure at Southampton following his transfer from Celtic in 2015 and his impressive performances have reportedly drawn the interest of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Recent reports suggest the 25-year-old prefers a move to Anfield, though, and Gerrard would welcome the Netherlands international with open arms.

I would love to see Van Dijk in a red shirt. I am a huge fan, Gerrard said in quotes reported by The Daily Mail.

I thought he was fantastic at Celtic and I thought we should have had a go for him back then.

Alisson can become a global great, says Dida

Former Brazil international Dida believes Alisson can continue his rapid rise and establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Alisson rose to prominence at Internacional in his homeland after inheriting the starting job from Dida, who has monitored his compatriot s development ever since they worked together.

The 26-year-old initially had to bide his time for first-team opportunities after joining Roma in 2016, eventually taking over as first choice for the Italian club at the start of the 2017-18 season.

Liverpool spent €72.5 million – a world-record fee for a keeper at the time – to sign him in July and Alisson has settled in quickly to life at Anfield, keeping seven clean sheets in 12 Premier League appearances.
