Gibbs value too high for Premier League suitors

The Metro understands that Arsenal may have to lower their valuation of Kieran Gibbs if they are to sell him to one of their Premier League rivals.

A number of potential suitors have been put off by the Gunners’ £15m price tag with Newcastle United, Stoke City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Watford all linked with a move to secure his services.

Gibbs managed only eight Premier League starts for Arsene Wenger’s side last season with Nacho Monreal first choice in his position and the arrival of Sead Kolasinac is likely to threaten his chances even more so.

Aside from a brief loan spell with Norwich City in 2008 Gibbs has spent his entire career so far at the Emirates Stadium racking up a total of two hundred and twenty-nine appearances in all competitions,…

Grealish: Liverpool FA Cup defeat won´t affect Man City´s ambitions

Jack Grealish firmly believes Manchester City can win a Premier League and Champions League double and insists their FA Cup loss to Liverpool will not affect their ambitions.

Pep Guardiola s men suffered a thrilling 3-2 semi-final defeat to Jurgen Klopp s team on Saturday, with Sadio Mane s double adding to Ibrahima Konate s opener to give the Reds a comfortable half-time lead.

Goals from Grealish and Bernardo Silva threatened an incredible turnaround, but City were unable to find a leveller and fell to their first Wembley defeat to Liverpool, having beaten them on penalties in both the 2016 League Cup final and the 2019 Community Shield.

City have now lost on four of their last five FA Cup semi-final appearances, but Grealish said the loss would not affect their…

Newcastle need more players like Guimaraes and Joelinton, not ´big stars´ – Hislop

Newcastle United should ignore the temptation to buy big stars and focus on more players like Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

That is the view of Shaka Hislop, the ex-Magpies goalkeeper, who has been hugely impressed by the performances of the Brazilian midfield pair.

Newcastle signed Guimaraes in January for a fee that could eventually surpass the club-record figure of £40million previously spent on compatriot Joelinton.

Brazil international Guimaraes hit the ground running at St James Park, scoring five goals in 17 appearances before the end of the season – more than in 71 outings over two years for former club Lyon.

Joelinton endured a considerably trickier start to life in England following his 2019 arrival, toiling as a striker as he netted only 1…

Barcelona in Rodrigo Moreno discussions

Barcelona have started negotiating with Valencia over the possibility of signing Rodrigo Moreno on loan for the rest of the season, according to .

The striker joined Valencia back in the summer of 2015 for a reported fee of €30 million, and since then he has had 96 goal involvements (56 goals, 40 assists) in 208 games in all competitions. Barcelona are in dire need of a man of his quality, having lost Luis Suarez to injury for four months. Recent reports claimed the Catalans are in for a striker, but only a top one as they seek to avoid repeating the Kevin-Prince Boateng fiasco of last year, and Rodrigo was mentioned as the preferred target ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal and RB Leipzig s Timo Werner.

However, funds seem to be tight at the m…

Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards has joined Premier League side Crystal Palace on a five-year deal.

The eight-cap United States international spent the majority of the past two seasons on loan with Hoffenheim, where he made 34 appearances.

He was pushed further down the central-defensive pecking order at Bayern following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus earlier this month.

Khedira set to leave Juventus?

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Juventus will attempt to negotiate an early contract termination by mutual consent with midfielder Sami Khedira.

For well over a year now, the 33-year-old veteran has been at the heart of great speculation regarding his future. After he didn’t leave last summer, deciding to stay on for at least another year, it finally seems as if his time with the Italian champions has come to an end.

The Old Lady has always been fairly ruthless in getting rid of players they don’t necessarily believe in, but Khedira has been a valued member of their midfield since arriving from Real Madrid back in 2015.

There are clearly plans in place for Juve to make some notable changes during the summer transfer window, and this could we…

´Everyone needs to watch out for us´ – Brugge´s Sowah sends warning shot after Porto thumping

Club Brugge forward Kamal Sowah warned Champions League rivals to watch out for us after an impressive 4-0 away thrashing of Porto.

It was the Belgian side s joint-biggest away win in the competition, with Sowah getting on the scoresheet with a 47th-minute goal, his first for the club since signing in 2021 from Leicester City.

Also in the goals was 17-year-old substitute Antonio Nusa, whose 89th-minute finish made him the youngest player to score on a Champions League debut, as well as the second-youngest player in history behind Ansu Fati to net in the competition.

Brugge s victory means they top Group B and have won consecutive Champions League games for only the second time, and Sowah says the team must be taken seriously.

It was a great moment to sco…
