The Deadspin 2012-2013 Fantasy Football Awards

A few months ago, we compiled a Fantasy Football Almanac of results from 1970 to 2011. Now we're ready to update the almanac for the 2012 season, with awards for the best players and some new data as well. Take a look, then add your comments, analyses, quibbles, and rants in the discussion below. No fantasy scoring system is more valid than any other, but we used the following, from Pro Football Reference's fantasy stats page: 1 point per 25 yards passing, 1 point per 10 yards rushing/receiving, 6 points per touchdown, and -2 points per interception. The raw stats are also based on PFR's numbers. PFR and Chase Stuart of Football Perspective provided us with some extra stats for this edition, for which we're very grateful. Kirk Cousins Shoves Volunteer Official At Charity Flag Football Game [Update]

We’ve illustrated Kirk Cousins’s legendary competitiveness a few times, but the Washington QB may have taken it a bit far today at a charity flag football game when he got very angry and shoved a volunteer official. A witness who was on the field at the time reports Cousins went apoplectic about the umpire not being able to quickly spot the ball for his team’s attempt at a game-winning touchdown. That umpire—who we’re told is a lawn service superintendent—wagged his finger at Cousins, who we’re told was “super pissed” about the delay in spotting the football. A witness who was on the field at the time insists Cousins was legitimately mad and not just playing it up for show. Here’s another angle: YOU LIKE THAT!? The game, hosted by a celebrity fitness website, rai…

Derrick Rose Confident in Health With Pistons

data-mm-id=”_t0cwc5962″>Derrick Rose was changing quietly in the Pistons locker room after a game in which he did not play. The attention was on 23-year-old Luke Kennard, who scored 29 points during the 112-106 loss to the Pacers. At that specific moment, one would be hard-pressed to realize that Rose was once an NBA MVP, a perennial All-Star, and has a near $200 million endorsement deal with Adidas. However, that's just who Rose has always been even at his peak; humble, reserved, and real. After starting the season averaging an impressive 20.8 points and 6.3 assists per game, he has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury. Something that does not appear to be any cause for concern, according to Rose, who could be seen getting up shots up before the game."I feel go…

Lonzo Ball as Healthy as Ever as Pelicans Surge

data-mm-id=”_lhu288wzi”>INDIANAPOLIS– At UCLA, Lonzo Ball played with a unique flair and swagger to his game that landed him the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-6 point guard averaged 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game while playing in all 36 of the Bruins' games. However, since coming into the NBA, he has not been gifted the same bill of health. In his first two seasons in the NBA with the Lakers, he missed a combined 65 games. This season, he came into training camp fully healthy after a slow recovery period during the offseason. Now he has played in 45-of-53 games and looks to be on track to play a career-high in games. Even more recently, he's played 37 minutes or more minutes in three of the last four games and averaged 11.3 points, 8…

Tracy Wolfson on the Challenges of NFL Sideline Reporting in 2020

data-mm-id=”_2jjyujpa8″>The 2020 NFL season kicks off in one day. Unsurprisingly, given the unprecedented times, there are still many kinks being ironed out by those who will broadcast the game to the millions upon millions of eager fans looking for a distraction from the reality our country finds itself in.Perhaps no one in the NFL broadcast game is working more on the fly right now than sideline reporters, as Tracy Wolfson discussed with The Big Lead during a CBS conference call. That's something they're used to given the nature of their quick-reaction reporting from the sideline based on whatever just happened on the field or bench, but this season presents myriad new challenges. "There are still so many things that the NFL and networks are still working out," Wo…

Drew Brees Got a Bad Haircut

data-mm-id=”_7oakxfn9f”>Getting a haircut has been a challenge for many of us during this national shutdown. At one point it was impossible to find clippers. Then, even if you got them, there was the uncertainty of how you or your loved one would do actually trimming the locks. In the Brees household, whether done by Drew, his wife or, most likely, a professional, there was a clear misfire on this attempt. My QB lookin' OLD!? pic.twitter.com/P8H5kZWnba— Ryan (@datboywolf) August 17, 2020Not sure if he asked for a one on the sides and they just did it all around, but Brees looks like he aged 20 years with that haircut. However, in fairness to the Saints quarterback, his hairline was regressing faster than his quarterbacking skills. Perhaps this was an attempt at a Michael Jordan-…

Maybe the Jets Shouldn't Be So Quick to Give Up on Sam Darnold

data-mm-id=”_5jpdnu21s”>To the agony of their fans everywhere, the New York Jets won their first football game of the 2020 season on Sunday with a surprise victory over the Los Angeles Rams. This is, in fact, a Bad Thing because the win moves the team down one slot in the 2021 NFL Draft to No. 2 overall behind the Jacksonville Jaguars, which means Gang Green will not have a shot to take Trevor Lawrence, the best QB prospect to come along since Andrew Luck. There are still two weeks left of football to play, and things could change. But in the very likely possibility that both the Jets and Jaguars lose the remainder of their games, the Jets will be looking at the second overall selection thanks to a strength-of-schedule tiebreaker that favors Jacksonville. That means that Jets fans have …

Nikola Jokic Left His Finals MVP Trophy on a Table, Bruce Brown Didn't Know What to Do

data-mm-id=”_f5y65nvd1″>Nikola Jokic was named NBA Finals MVP after his Denver Nuggets won their first NBA title Monday night. After the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat in Game 5, Jokic appeared happy to have won but kind of overwhelmed by the whole celebration aspect of things. He seemed content but not overly happy. That extended to receiving his MVP trophy, which he just sort of left on the table it was presented from. That left teammate Bruce Brown in an awkward spot. Jokic set the Finals MVP trophy drown after getting it and picked up his daughter. Then he just kind of… walked away. Brown wound up next to it and he picked it up when the table was taken down. As he was holding he desperately looked for someone else to give it to.Check this out:Jokic left the finals MVP trophy on the …

Ja'Marr Chase: 'I'm Always F–king Open'

data-mm-id=”_0zu9y1km4″>The Cincinnati Bengals' disappointing season continued today in Tennessee as they fell to the Titans, 27-3. Joe Burrow's calf injury is still clearly hindering his play and the offense's struggles were not helped by the loss of Tee Higgins, who exited halfway through the contest with an injury. Ja'Marr Chase did what he could to cover for Higgins, catching seven passes for 73 yards, but everything we've seen from the team's offense this season is a far cry from the deadly offense that made one Super Bowl and fell just short of another. After the game reporters spoke to Chase about Burrow's limited mobility. The superstar wide receiver was asked if he feels like he has less time to get open with the offensive game plan leaning s…

Craig Carton: Aaron Rodgers is a Lousy General Manager

data-mm-id=”_khw87phf4″>Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles four plays into this New York Jets season and anyone who would suggest otherwise is a loser who lives in their parents' basement. Predictably, things have no gone smoothly for the team after being forced to put their livelihood in the hands of Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle. Now it's sounding like Rodgers won't return even if he's medically cleared if there's no realistic shot of the playoffs. Which there won't be very, very soon. Robert Saleh and his staff, along with general manager Joe Douglas reportedly have some job security for next year because that's what the 40-year-old quarterback prefers. And honestly, that's probably fair because how the hell do you grade the brass when best-laid plan…
